I want to paint my '73 electron blue . I want it to be stripped bare and maybe gelcoated and new primer. There are a few stress cracks that need to be filled in. How much is the average good daily driver paintjob? I want it to look good but it does not need to be show quaLITY.
Mine was just repainted black in california (I just moved). I think it cost around 7k. The insurance paid for it though. Do I love deer or hate them now
Go to Macco and get a great job for around $500 dollars. It will look just as nice as these silly clowns that spend $5000 to $10,000 and never enjoy their Vettes.
It all depends on what you want .I have done many C3s and can say that 4k-5k is about average .The only way I will paint one is to completely dissasemble the body ,paint it and then reasemble using all new light lenses ,chrome ,emblems and weatherstrip.Without sounding like an azz,if the owner is not up for buying new parts ,it is usually a deal breaker. :yesnod:

My '70 is being done now. Total stripping of paint, redo any repairs and blemishes and line up all lines. I am also changing the color from red back to the original Daytona Yellow. Looked at it yesterday and it is better than factory. Cost $3500.00. He also told me his prices are going up after this one.
I really have to disagree with that opinion. MAACO at $500.00 is just a slap-on job. With Home Depot paint. Your choice of coarse or fine roller. And I do drive my Corvette. And pray for no stones. But you take that risk to have a fine looking car. And a driver. Cost of my paint in $CDN. Minimum of 60 hrs labour as shown for a straight car. Quality DuPont Chroma Premier base/clear. http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/pau...tquote_002.jpg
well, mine cost a little over $9000 :( :U
Don't ask me about it, i'm not overly happy with the result and the shop that did it deserves to be burnt down. But it looks good and i will continue to put rock chips in it because....IT WAS BUILT AND MEANT TO DRIVE. :D
Good luck, and remember that if you drive it, it won't stay perfect, so take good care of it, and ENJOY it :D :smash:

Re: average paint costs (Raydon 3000)
Not my Corvette, but my El camino was just painted. I took everything on it off, I mean EVERYTHING!!!! The window fuzzies, the weatherstriping, bumpers, chrome, lights, lens, grill, windshield trim. EVERYTHING !! All I took to the guy was the bare body. Then I took a new Cowl hood in the box, so he didn't have to strip it and he didn't have to paint the inside of the bed either. So basiclly he only preped the top, fenders, doors ,quarters and tailgate. Then painted the previous list plus the hood and he did stripe the hood. There were no dents or rust at all other than maybe five or six very small door dings.
I got a bargin at $1500 bucks.
I think it would be worth what you guys are quoting if it includes the new lights ,bumpers and chrome as you have stated. I'm going to have at least $3500 when I get through with the outside of the 'Camino. They are asking me $375 per bumper for rechroming. I have a shop that does excellant work for $235 ea. only thing is that it is 250 miles away. Good thing I have a friend who trucks and can drop them off for me.Then another $375 to spray the bed with Line-X, And I am going to cover the Fiberglass Tonneue cover ($700 ) with convertable top material and I expect another $150 at least their and then I still have the inside to do.
Ain't nuthin' cheap no more and a cheap job is usually just what it is called, A CHEAP JOB !!!! You don't get what you don't pay for and sometimes you don't get it then. JIM :yesnod:
in this department it is tricky business
There so many variables first off you want as much as possible removed and as little as possible masked.
second you can double the price if you want a color change because the prepwork takes alot longer if you are doing a color change then at least loosten the bumpers and you will probably want to pull the engine and tranny to get a good coat on the firewall. yoy will also want to remove your door panels. I even went so far as to remove all the guts from the door as well and the interior, it will be devistating if you get over spray on a good interior.
So you can see how this can be very time consumeing i hope this helps.

Oh yes I forgot to mention to not forget about the headlight bezels.
most people paint the car with the headlights down and never see the bezels untill a month later when they turn the lights on during the day for some reason.
Aaron76 you are right ,I have always looked at it like this .To get the best job ,you have to paint a car in the same sequence as the factory. And the very first thing that is done to anycar in the manufacturing process is PAINT.I have argued this point with many others before. The further you deviate from this process ,the more the quality of your paint job will suffer. :yesnod:
