So took my 1972 with a rebuilt 350 out for a spin today.. 1/2 mile from my house all of a sudden my engine seemed to get significantly louder.. almost sounded like the header had loosen from the engine.. I knew I was having an issue getting one of the header bolts tight in the past so that was my first thought.. But then popped the hood and nothing seemed out of place visually.. then realizing I am hearing more of a "thumping" sound from the engine.. definitely not normal.
I bought the car 9 months ago.. has run fine since I got it. The PO said the guy before him had rebuilt the engine in 2009.. Had checked out by a mechanic.. all seemed fine.
I took off the value covers and to see if I can notice anything looking damaged.. I'm no mechanic so not sure but doesn't look out of the ordinary to me.
Could it be a value?
Any thoughts? I have a video if that might help so you can hear it.
Well I didnt expect this.. While looking under the valve covers I looked down and noticed a spark plug wire hanging.. then realized the spark plug in the driver side front position was missing.. I guess who ever put the plugs in didn't make sure they were tight.. or maybe this one just loosened up over time.. With Hooker Super comp headers there not a lot of room in there.. Replaced all plugs and back in business.. Sure glad it didnt turn out to be a major $$$ issue..:-)
