Default Power window delay off timer

Has anyone ever installed a timer to allow their power windows to operate for a short time after the ignition is switched off?

I'm thinking about doing it on my '81 since I can never remember to raise the windows up before shutting the engine off and removing the key.

Yep-

I used a Hella relay-

There as several timer boards out there- but this piece is the best way to do it. I used it for the headlights and the power windows. You can program it to "stay on" for up to 15 minutes after you turn the ignition off.

Another way- is you can use a pair of relays- and make them latch when you turn the ignition off- and stay on till you open the door. Use to do this for stereos back in the day.

Thanks Richard, I didn't expect anything that specific. Just need to work out if I just take a always hot supply from somewhere or see if I can change the power window supply to be always hot. Shouldn't be too hard once I look into it.

I think GM had the power windows switched for 'safety reasons'- so junior couldn't play with the windows and get his sister's (or Spot's) head caught.

That's why I'd caution against just running them hot all the time

The power windows are protected by a 30A circuit breaker- not as likely to start a fire- but does open up some possibilities.

The always hot supply would just be to power the timer. I have no intention of leaving the windows hot all the time. Aside from the safety issue, to me it would also be a security issue.

Had a quick look. If I can get my hands on one of the fuse panel plugs for the rear window defogger (mine doesn't have this option) then I can just plug straight in.
