if your oil smells like gas, i have always understood that your have a carb that is pumping excess gas into the engine and it is running past your rings into your oil.
Definetly not good.

Be careful. You should find out the cause before you try driving the car... or should I say before you start the engine.
Gas fumes in the crankcase could in effect turn your engine into a rather large bomb. :eek:

Change your oil right away, don't try to start the engine until you have done the change then find out what is causing so much flooding, ie. check your choke etc.

change the fuel pump. i have fixed this problem many times, you see i am an old fart. this was common baaaaaack in the day. change the pump, new filter and oil, ready to go. robert

Robert is right, it is most likely the fuel pump diaphram. I just bought a brand new replacement A/C Delco for $25.00 from an A/C Delco distributor, a real bargin.
