Nope but I'm thinking of installing a battery disconnect switch because I have a parasitic power drain somewhere and haven't any idea where it's comming from yet.
Re: the fire thread makes me think.. (theanswriz42)
You can check, there were several threads on this subject a few months back. I installed a keyed battery disconnect in the battery compartment so that the key could be inserted while sitting in the drivers seat by reaching behind the sea. I had wanted to do something about the danger of an electrical fire in this old of a car (75). I actually installed it when I developed a battery drain thatI could not find. So now, in case of an electrical fire I can immediately disconnect the battery with no tools, with out getting out of the car. When the car is going to sit for a few days I switch the battery off to prevent battery drain. Being able to switch the disconnect off and remove the key is an added theft deterent as well.
I have a quick disconnect (turn ****) in the battery compartment. Whenever it's going to be sitting for more than a couple of days, I always disconnect to be on both the safe side and to avoid any drain.
I have disconnect switches on all of my Corvettes. On the 69, the knife switch is the quickest. That way, you don't have to wiggle you hand down in front of the battery to fool with the green wheel type. I disconnect the battery EVERY time I turn off the car.....in my garage....at a car show or cruise, etc. NEVER leave it on unattended. JC Whitney sells the "WirthCo" knife switches for less than $20.00.
I carry a fire extinguisher in all of my cars....have one for each. That way I never forget. Many automotive clubs require that you have an extinguisher to participate in their events. The AACA...Antique Auto Club of America, and the VCCA...the Vintage Chevy Club of America require them at their shows. NCRS gives "bonus points" for an extinguisher.
NEVER leave the house without one. Mounting it? Why worry about that? Put it in the back of the car or lay it on the floorboard. Why sweat mounting it? Chuck
