Damn, I have a crazy day at work and didn't see this post. I ordered the parts from summit yesterday. I do appreciate the offer, I ordered a low profile wing nut as well. Yesterday morning I noticed the wing nut I had made an impression in the hood insulation. It's going to be tight but it has to be done. Roger thanks agin, we should connect this summe for a nice cruise
Cruising sounds good. Once the weather isnt so questionable I'm in

I did receive the spacer, gaskets, studs and low profile air cleaner wing nut, So I'll have fun this weekend fitting that on. Then I can rule that out and if it persists I will chase the vacuum route. I have a funny feeling that may be an issue as well.

so you have had this trouble with 2 different carbs on a rebuilt motor.
what makes you think it is a carb issue? lots of reasons a motor runs poor when it gets hot. timing, vacuum leak, etc. are your intake manifold heat passages blocked off when it was rebuilt? float set correct, mixture correct?
I've posted info before if you want to search, but pressurized fuel in the line rarely boils, and recirculating setups keep it cool as well.
if you think it is boiling out of the carb, hit the bowls with a IR temp gun and see. but if it is running fine on the highway, there is plenty of fuel in the bowls. if it runs rough at a stop light, where there is minimal need for fuel, I doubt that is the case. I would be putting on a vacuum guage and looking for leaks when hot before I ran out and bought a bunch of snake oil parts.

Ignition modules can fail with high temps, then deliver the goods once cooled down.

Update, I added the 1/2" spacer and everything seems different, engine starts better, runs smoother, accelerates much quicker. Yesterday was a cloudy cool day so I have to take that into consideration and will update on a hot day and a long drive. But overall I did notice a big change. Really strange. Air cleaner is rubbing on the hood insulation but the low profile wingnut from summit worked well. I wish I could find a lower profile air cleaner. I have a 3" anyway. Maybe I should've tried the 3/8 spacer, but I'm really happy with driving yesterday. Felt like a new car.

Tooonz, I have a 1406 Edelbrock carb mounted on an Edelbrock Performer manifold and a half inch spacer between carb and manifold. This setup runs good for me and I also replaced my 3 inch open element air cleaner with a 2 inch one from Speedway Motors. Its 14 inches and chrome and gives me an extra inch of space under the hood. I cannot detect any difference in performance between the 3 inch air filter and the 2 inch one. This may be just what you need for the limited space you have under your hood.

Congrats on the resolution. Hope its still working this way when it gets really hot, whenever that is. I'm starting my vacation and it just looks gloomy

Added the new 2" air filter which will lower the air cleaner so it won't rub on the insulation. Now I just need to shorten the stud from the carb to fit the lower profile air filter and low profile with nut. The car certainly starts so much quicker and better. Runs like a champ. Little warmer this afternoon but a good hot summer day will tell.

That looks nice. I hope you get a chance to cut that soon in case the hood inadverntantly gets slammed shut and pokes though the hood. That would be a bummer. Hopefully this week end is nice. Today turned out pretty good

I pulled it out right after the picture. I already chipped my pant tonight by dropping the wing nut, which put me in panic mode. Luckily my body guy was still answering his phone. Quick jaunt and some touch up later...... I need some fender covers. First chip I put in the car. 😡

run over to Oreillys, they have a set that is pretty cheap. They don't fit great but the price was for 2, some places have the same price for 1. They will get your by and keep your paint clean until you can get the fancy custom fit corvette ones. I still havent got the custom fit ones yet

I put a new coil in either last year or the summer before, not that it wouldn't be bad again. But I did replace the coil. We haven't had the serious hot days in a while, but it is running much better and different. It's a pleasure to drive now. Roger that wingnut I purchased from Summit, it's a low profile wingnut. It is made for a different air cleaner because it looks like it should fit a little lower but I really like the way it's clean and has a finished look.
