Default C3 transmission change

My 1980 Corvette has an automatic transmission. Will a 1982-92 Camaro 5-speed transmission fit into my 1980 corvette? Will the shifter be aligned correctly to fit my console?

Transmission can fit, shifter won't be aligned correctly.

For transmission fit you will need a matching bell housing and possible changes to the cross member, then decide on the clutch petal linkage, z-bar or hydraulic TOB.

Are you selecting a Camaro 5 speed because of budget concerns ?

There are many other options these days, but $$$ is a requirement.

To get an idea of what is involved changing to a manual transmission here was my conversion for my 78 corvette to T56 6-speed.

The non-world class is almost a bolt-in. I'm in my swap for $600- including the driveshaft shortened.

Just have to make a bracket to handle the odd angle on the stock mount of the T-5.

Stock bellhousing bolts up - along with the stock mechanical clutch.

Will have to have the driveshaft shortened

The speedo is mechanical - just have to get the right speedo gear for your diff and you are good to go.

The shifter - it's going to require an adapter- but not to tough to whip up- several forum members have done it.

Here's m my trans- got it for about $300- went through it- replaced the rear seal-

Here's some pics- thanks to "john65"

Hi Richard. Here's another, the one you posted on the cardboard is from a conversion done on my 68.

This is the one on my 77. After this pic was taken I put the dummy vette stick on to give it the correct look. OP as you can see it comes up and over several inches to the left. Good luck, love mine.
