Lifter noise after hand turning
So I spent the last day or so installing an MSD timing tape and checking for TDC with a stop tool. Needless to say I was turning the engine with a breaker bar (plugs out) a number of times to get this done.
When I went to start it, it had the most God awful lifter noise I've ever heard. After a few minutes all the noise is gone...car is fine. Started it a few times after this and its fine.
My question is....does oil leave the lifters when the engine is turned by hand? '73 L82

When you turn an engine with hydraulic lifters, and not turning enough to build oil pressure, the oil in the lifters can be pushed out and not refilled. The lifter noise lasted until the pressure "pumped up" the lifters. Not a real common occurrence, but it could happen. Just my take on your noise.
