Your parents didn't give you the first name "Turd" ... did they?

81 corvette check eng.
Well I was just curious on what could make make the check eng light come on since I was reading that it was really for emissions. I just wanted to pick some brains and see if that was true or if it could be electrical, vac line ???? and how would if you can get a code?

Well, Turd, this forum is for Corvettes vintage 2005-2013. Some of the folks on this forum weren't born in 1981. Take it to the proper forum, C3, for better answers.

Faulty ECU, sensor, solenoid, a large vacuum leak, or a faulty solenoid could do it.
To read the codes Remove the ash tray, below it will be a five terminal connector. With the ignition on (engine not running) short the two pins closest to the drivers side. The check engine light will now start to flash indicating the fault codes. Code 12 should come first (flash short pause two flashes long pause) each code will show three times then it will move to the next code. Once all codes have been done it will go back to code 12.
