SBC oil capacity problem???
I'm finally ready to try the cam break in on this rebuilt sbc.
I filled the oil filter (PH25) and just over 4 1/2 qts in crank case.
The dip stick still at ADD mark. Using all orginal parts.
I think it will take 6 qts to come to FULL mark.
Is this too much?
Thanks

Is your dip stick tube all the way into your block?

Have you oil primed the engine yet? If not, I'd do that first and check the stick again and add oil as needed.

The oil tube is all the way in the block and the oil pump has been primed.
I'll just add oil until the level is at FULL.
Thanks

It takes 5 quarts. Note the discrepancy on the dipstick or re-mark the stick with a center punch or a vibropeen.

5 quarts should be enough including the filter dependng on the pan, could be more not less

I just remembered that I did put the missing o-ring on th oil filler tube. Wouldn't think that would make much of a difference.

Stock pan, stock oil filter, stock oil level including the filter.
Start the engine for a few minutes and shut it off. Leave it over night and check the oil level again

BUT.... I am using a Fram 1 piece pan gasket(blue) that is thicker than a cork. Make the pan deeper?

SBC's take 5 qts with an OEM pan, smaller .5 qt filter for the cars! I use the SBC truck filter which is 1 Qt so my total capacity is 5.5 qts for a fill.....
