Default Chambered Exhaust to Loud

I bought a 74 last fall with chambered exhaust pipe from the headers to back chrome tips. After a winters paint and resto she hit the road today. It runs great, I am very pleased.

However the chambered exhaust is simply to loud, cant hear the sirius well and its probably a Ticket getter in NY.

Whats the easiest and cheapest way to quiet her down some, without replacing the entire exhaust system.

If you only have the single stage you could add the other stage....However that might not quieten it down enough for you.

I had the same issue, chambered mufflers just slow down the noise. I changed to turbo now too quite, the car runs the same.
I would look @ Magnaflow's or similar.

Some chambered systems came with the rear section also being chambered. My didn't and like you said it was too loud, so I installed a pair of 2 baffle OEM style mufflers. T

Check out flow master mufflers..They have a link on the web where you can hear each one....To me a lot of them sound the same....Look at delta flow 50 series, they are quieter than the 40 series with good performance....I wouldn't suggest magnaflow, sounded like a high powered lawn mower when you got on it......Some may like them but I didn't....Went back to my original 40 series flowmasters...

Thanks for all the replies. It seems like the best
fix is to add mufflers. Last year I bought a set of turbo type for my 79 Vette, from Summit Racing. They fit perfect, sounded good, yet not loud, and they were very reasonable. I am going to get another set and hang the mufflers and be done with the problem.

Thanks to all

I agree with your final solution. I put Walker Turbos on my '73 L82 and like the sound very much, also get many compliments at shows and the best part is they are cheap.

By Walker Turbos, do you mean Dynomax Super Turbos?

Mike
