Lost one Cylinder - Pertronix Ignitor 2 !
Hello there,
As i was reving my engine to 5800rpm and had to slow down, i noticed when I wanted to acelerate again that I had lost one or maybe two Cylinders. Luckily this happend right shortly before I was at my Destination (home). Now the search for the cause began... Checked my spark wires, changed plugs, looked inside the Distributor, NOTHING. I just knwew one cylinder wasnt firing... Next day after searching on the net and reading about that the small magnets that are installed in the ring that you Mount underneath Distributor pick up loose sometimes their magnets (you cant see the magnets once installed since the ring is upside down with the magnets facing the module)... So i took off the Distributor cap again and there it was... One of the eight tiny magnets came loose and stuck to the braker baseplate in a Corner... You would hardly ever notice. So if you have a Pertronix that is not one of the newer Versions without the magnet ring, check that! Here is photo of the usesless Magnetring that has just a foil over it to protect the magnets. Over time with the extreme underhood heat the foil tape doesnt stick anymore and gets loose and so do the magnets! I am taking mine out and installing a Pertronix 3 lobe sensor controlled that doesnt use a magnet ring. I want to Keep my Distributor stock looking this is why i am using These.
Here is a Picture of a good ring...

Took the garbage out today... 2 Magnets where actually missing, but I could find only one inside the Distributor, the second one must be hiding really good under the breaker Point mounting plate
