I just found out, that the center-carb of the Holley Tri-Power setup on my '69 L68 has the wrong metering-block installed. It should be # 5257 (automatic) but is # 5101. I have no idea, for which setup this block is designed to.
Can anyone tell me, what makes the difference between those two blocks - and is there any serious reason to rechange?
I can't say, that there are any specific problems. The engine runs good, acceleration is fine, maybe the fuel-consumption is a bit high (11,8 mls/gall.).
Holley metering blocks are calibrated to specific carb models and applications. There can be differences in idle restrictor size and location, power valve restrictor size, emulsion holes, and some metering valve have emulsion tubes inside the emulsion cavity, many do not.
I just modified a primary metering block for a 1850 600 cfm to work on a 4781 850 double pumper secondary. The 2 metering blocks are vastly different. You need to know all the orifice locations and sizes on the metering block your trying to duplicate, and apply them to the replacement. It's a little bit of work, but not really difficult.
