Default Wheelspin after kickdown

Hi!

I got a ride in a C3 yesterday and when we were cruising about 40 mph the driver took a kickdown resulting in spinning wheels for a while. I was amazed by the power... the driver said that the car maybe have around 300hp...I would guess there must more than 300 for that result?

What do you think?
(I must add that the road was maybe a little wet after some rain, I guess that made the wheelspin a little easier?).

Not uncommon, if conditions are right

My dad had an avanti with 400 sb and th400, cut converter shift kit, etc, he hated the kick down and disconnected the switch,

Once in mist rain he was making a turn it kicked down and the car spun into oncoming lane, he got lucky,

If you are doing such a thing very often, could there be damage to the car, gearbox/rear end?

Sure, when they spin tires get worn but a spinning tire isnt stressing parts as badly as tires hooking up,
Hard hitting shift kits can pop u joints, or any part in the line up getting that spike hit,
A stock trans on normal conditions shouldnt break loose and spin tires when it kicks down perhaps chirp, unless you got the hp and things just right,
Like in my dads case its a safety issue if it breaks loose at undesired times,
Modded auto trans can do all kinds of wild stuff.

Come to think about it, my 78 camaro less than 200hp reworked shift kit trans,
It was wet out i got on it this was at highway speeds it broke loose when it kicked down kept hydroplaning when i over braked, i went off the road side, got lucky like dad did

I bet i worded that all askew,

I remember when I have asked this question about rear end failure from people who made burnouts etc. many have answered "I don´t worry about it... -these rear ends were made to last". Maybe, if you are lucky they could last for quite a while or what???

If i am mistaken someone will set
Me straight,
But to my thinking a corvette rear c3 and c2s that share them have a smaller ring than say a camaro with old straight axle and in turn are a little weaker, and i am told the 80 up bat wing are weaker still,
How weak? well, in over 30 rears of putzing with vettes i have never seen a street car bust one, u joints, trannies, but not the actual diff, hear of it never seen it in person,
My 81 was about 350 perhaps 400 hp i never broke anything being a dork,
There are racers guys here who will tell you more details, the real heads up on parts weakness,
But spinning while easier on parts aint winning, and hooking up stresses things, has to be built for the task,
I dont do them but wouldn't fear burn outs with my 69.
