Re: What years had a Tach Filter installed ?? (Daves_rusty_75)
started with '75, first year of HEI, so no tach cables....much big improvement....
tach filter was placed there to limit the RFI from dist into AM radios....no one cares these days....and of course to smooth out the pulses into the tach....called integrate them, in electronic parlance....
the schematics are well documented here...do a site search...
Re: What years had a Tach Filter installed ?? (Paul Borowski)
I am going to check through the GM system tomorrow to see if those filters are still available. Parts guys can get lost in upgraded/superseding numbers and lose interest very quickly if you are across the counter. My colleagues are pretty assiduous in cutting to the chase. I went through this is trying to buy my new GM rad when I was a "civilian." Now on the GM side, some eight L-82, non-A/C rads were located. I will check.

I checked the GM parts system today. The tach filter is part #14020025 and is "discontinued" and not available. There is no residual stock in parts depots in Canada or the USA. There may be some left in dealers' inventories but I cannot search at that level. That is the bad news. The good news is that the filter was common to all 1975-84 GM vehicles with a HEI distributor and a tachometer. That includes Corvettes, Camaros, Firebirds...even trucks. It is not a "Corvette" part. So there must be 1000s out in salvage yards. I would imagine that you could pick one up for $1.00! Look for the part in my pic above with a brown wire and single-post brown connector at the HEI end.
