Happy 4th everybody! Have a 79 Vette, all stock except transmission is a 700R4. Very happy performance wise. When she was working fine, lol. So I am in Los angeles. Reviews on corvette shops semi near me scare me. I need a new differential and also wanna replace the yokes with the hardened ones I am reading about. Don't know the gears but love the rpms at higher speeds. Anyone know where I can have this done at a reliable reasonable place in my area. As far as the rear end goes. Whines around corners when warmed up. When I drive like 10 miles I can hear pounding and grinding, loud when I make turns. I am guessing my core is worthless but what to do where to go. Need someone that will give a set price and ready date (only car, need to work to pay bills). Even considered a new rebuilt unit from like ecklers shipped to my mechanic. He is a general mechanic, not a c3 mechanic as I feel I should go to. Cannot afford to get screwed on the price. Need up front price. I can't drop 1 cent over 2.5k. Suggestions, advice will be much appreciated. Going to do this by August 1st!
Thanks, Steve

I would start by replacing the fluid. Have it sucked out and then add 2 bottles of posi additive and fill with gear lube. Go do some slow hard turns or figure 8's to get the additive worked into the clutches. Your symptoms sound like typical posi clutch chatter.

J&D Corvettes in Bellflower,

OR,

Unitrax in Anaheim. There is a Vette on the rack every time I go there.

All Unitrax does is diffys. Hell, they did mine 15 years ago or so. (Before I knew Gary and Tracdogg).

Like '75 says change the fluid first.....Sounds like the clutches are sticking.....If so the fluid change with (2) bottles of the posi additive may fix it.....Lot cheaper than a rebuild.

Mine was doing the same . I took a 1/8 inch hose which drained real slow and was able to get all most all the fluid out of it , it drained (dripped ) for almost 24 hours . Replace the fluid and added 4 oz additive and haven't had a problem since about 6 weeks .

Thank you all for the input. Tried the fluid change. Did not work. Still same result. I am going to go with JD Corvette. Aiming for mid August. Will post feedback. Thank you all again.
