Parking brake cable adjustment
I got my rebuilt trailing arms back and need to install the cable for the parking brakes on both sides. I have the new cable installed but it is loose. It will slip out of the holder where the ball on the end of the cable is. I looked on you tube and here for setting this up but couldn't find anything
Thanks

you take the slack out of it by using the threaded adjuster at the end of the front cable. center of the car directly under the parking brake handle you should see where the front cable (coming off the brake handle) and the rear cable meet. should be a threaded rod with 2 nuts. tighten them up to take the slack out, should stop it from falling out

That picture is priceless. I couldn't find it when i was trying to fix my system. It would have helped as the PO had my spring on the wrong side and the e brake would alwys engage. Mine work great now. Good luck.
To adjust the easiest way I put my car in the air, disconnected the half shafts and turned each wheel individually to get the shoes adjusted out properly so they just started to drag. Reassembled everything then adjusted the nut buy the AIM insrtuctions. It didn't grab the way I wanted it too so I tightened it up a bit more , now they hold on steep hills

Make sure you get the tab bent over the ball at the end of the cable.....It should not pop back easy. It's also a real pain to get it bent over enough.

I have to add, adjust the shoes first. Tighten each drum up tight, then back off 4-5 notches. Factory setting of 6-8 is too loose. Make sure they don't drag. Then adjust the cable.

if either cable is stretched or too long, and you run out of adjustment.
you can make a 3/8" diameter sleeve/spacer a couple inches long and add to the main handle cable where it meets the rear cable,
this will push the rear cable forward a couple inches, and give you enough to properly tighten the e-brake cable assemble.

I totally agree with that.
And, to the OP, don't forget to burnish in the new shoes or they will never grab properly.

I have the same problem. I put a spring clip on the ball to stop it from falling out , then I could adjust the cable. That picture is great but the is a GM cable not the one we get from the venders.
