I don't know if it's just my area or not. But the badge on the side of my hood seems to be a big flag that says "see if he will race you". I think everytime I have gotten the car out for any period of time in the last two months somebody has tried to race me, and it's never something that really has a chance ( I picked the race with the ZO6, so that doesn't count), things like S-10's, Rangers, Supercharged Bonnevilles, Mini vans, etc. I know they just want to see the car run, but it is starting to get old. Anybody else experiencing the same thing, seemed to happen less when the car was more stock.
Yep, same here...funny thing is, I've never had a Mustang challenge me. About 3 weeks ago I had a new Z28 actually follow me off the freeway when I wouldn't take his bait. After a couple of lights he finally gave up and flipped a U-turn before getting back on the freeway. He had been the 3rd car that tried to race me within about 4 miles that day.
It's typically the pretenders, as you mentioned. I don't waste my gas or my attention on them.
I have the same problem. Every other soccer mom in an SUV tries to race me. The occasional mustang also tries, and I normally go for it, but its pathetic how slow most of them are. The only real competition I've had so far was an XKE. I was so busy admiring how beautiful it was that it took me a couple seconds to react to him (rolling start). We didn't have much room, so I don't know who would've won if I started correctly.
I never had any problems with anybody "messin" with me when I drove the vette. On one occurance a Mustang played when I had the LS5 motor in, but once I put in the LS7 and put the "454 LS7" badging on the L88 hood... People looked, waved and just went on their merry way..
Not sure what will happen once the new project comes out. :D
no....didnt really happen too much this summer...a few ricers but when i catch them at the lights they just laugh and try to talk up some crap about the car....

Pat, I'm going to state the obvious and say that is exactly the reason why the badges are there to begin with. Decals that say "Eddie Bauer" or "Limited" are meant to be pretentious, but badges that read "427" or "Z/28" are intended purely for intimidation. I bet far fewer people would pony up for a Z06, SS, WS6, etc. that looked just like a the stock models. It is a way of publicly saying "mine's faster" and some people are going to want you to put your money where your mouth (badge) is. My $0.02.
I have a big block and no one bothers me. This entire summer not one car tried to race me
Guess I will have to get a set of eblems put on the hood :)

   norval, no doubt that's true. The only way you'll ever get challenged is if John Force happens to pull up beside you.
Man,that would be
And John was driving in his SUV and then you could brag down at the bar that "I`ve beaten John Force at the lights"
Could happen. One of John Force's pit crew lives about a mile from me. John Force could be visiting and I could run into him. Sharan Stone is making a movie locally and she goes to this same reastraunt every day for lunch. I would rather run into her. Couldn't handle either one :yesnod:  but would like to meet them
I am thinking about painting my car back to the factory met yellow. Do you have any nice pictures of your car you could E-mail me? My car was painted beige before I bought it.
Thanks
