Default Is it OK to use a Performer intake with my stock quadrajet?

I was looking at getting a little more HP out of my engine by installing an Edelbrock performer intake on my 73. I just had my carb re-built with dyed castings and didn't want to spend more $$ on a new one. Is it even worth installing this intake, or will I not see any performance improvements using the Quadrajet with it? Also is there a better combo to use with the stock quadrajet for more power?

Thanks,

Mike.

I'm unsure about what it'll do for HP for you, but the performer is a square bore manifold and the q-jet is a spreadbore, so you'll need to run an adapter, which will probably raise your carb a bit and cause some hood clearance issues. I'm no expert though.

The performer intake has a spreadbore setup for your carb. Yes it will help you improve the performance with the Q-jet. Everything will fit fine. I used it before I bought the Holley carb I have now. Q-jets are very good carbs. The improvement will be more in torque than HP which you will see thruoghuot the rpm range. In my opinuon, it is money well spent.

I back up redwingvette's comments. I run the Edelbrock Perform 3701 (EGR) manifold with my q-jet. It clears hood without problem. Only clearance issue I had was the vacuum port on the manifold behind the carb; it sits closer to the carb on the Edelbrock manifold. No big deal, I needed a new fitting anyway.

Both the Edelbrock 2101 and 3701 have same dimensions; 3701 just has the EGR pad.

The performer will work fine on your 73. I have that setup on my 74 and have not had any problems.

the performer manifold is made for a Q jet and you must use a special plate and gaskets if you use a holley square bore. :chevy

I have to disagree with this.

All Performer intakes for sb chevy are dual design: spreadbore and squarebore. So, you can bolt on a Holley or Q-Jet.

However, the Performer RPM is a different story. The standard one only accepts Holley. But, they do make a Performer RPM with a Q-Jet pattern. Either way, you have to decide what carb you will stay with, and order the correct manifold.

IMO, go with the Performer. There will be no hood clearance problems. I think it's better to have good airflow. What good is the RPM intake if the engine is having to breathe through a tiny air cleaner. And, if you decide to go with a different carb later, it's as easy as bolting it on. If you are still not sure about the info everyone here has given regarding fit of the carb, then see for yourself. In the picture, note the dual bolt pattern for the carb.

Hope this helps
:seeya

Using a Rochester Quadrajet on an Edlebrock 2101 did anyone have to modify the choke? It looks like the rod will be too long.

Things do change but of the many performers i messed with while they were made to bolt on either a qjet or square bore with the square bore this type plate was required,

square bore plate

There are several "Edelbrock Performer" intakes. The 2101 has the huge secondary plenum for those QJets but also has both carb bolt patterns.
Your best bet is to just look at the options on Edelbrocks web site. Everything is right there, pictures carb pad height, bolt pattern, etc.

Oh boy oh boy! Maybe this will turn into a Holley vs Q-jet flamefest! I've seen no other subject that brings about such strong opinions, incorrect "facts," angry denials, insults, and fun for all! /S

Look at Edelbrocks web site for reference and then call Edelbrock's tech line to confirm what they have on there web site.
I believe their Performer intake is one of the few that they advertise that does fit the Corvette with no clearence issues.
I would also confirm with Edelbrock the specific part number you need to order to insure proper fit with your engine and carb set up.
let us know what they recommend and how it works for you.

Yes, the choke rod should be replaced. Edelbrock sells the choke rod you need. Talk with their tech support line.
