when i put new differential side yokes in a couple mos ago, they went in nice and snug. If you tried to twist them back and forth they had no play, but when you pulled/pushed them in and out there was about 1/8 to3/16 (not 1/4 like i thought)inch of play in them....i called the place i got them and they said that that was correct. but when i took the car to have the wheels alined both the wheel guys said there should be no play in and out, and claimed they have done well over a hunderd vettes over the years.....i put the snap rings in and everything seemed fine...the posi had no wear as it was recently rebuilt, the diff case has no wear,,,i would like to get some of your opinions on this matter
thanks :D
There should be little or no in and out movement in the side yokes. That will allow the wheel to move in and out and change the alignment of the wheels. Something is not right in there.
both sides are like that,,,the snap ring is in,,,,,,are there washers or shims that should go behind the snap ring. i am wondering if the yokes i got had the snapring groove cut in the wrong spot????
when the car is off the jacks the yokes move in, the weight of the car pushes them all the way in (tight and dont move even if you really shake the car),,,but when you lift the car with a jack, they come out about 1/8 to 3/16
