Default 72 ignition issues

My 72 has been out of commission for a while. I finally got it on the ground and was trying to start it.

After many attempts I got it where it would idle (had to replace gas) but it is running rough. When I turned the key off the engine stays running. I had to put a rag over the carb to kill the engine. I can start it again with the key but I can turn the key off and even remove it and the engine keeps on running.

The radio won't come on when the key is off. But the brake light on the dash stays on when I have the parking brake handle up when the key is off and even removed.

I have not done anything under the dash. I have been working on brakes.
Do you think the ignition switch has given out?

if you havent done anything to the electrical wiring, including the starter, yes it does sound like the switch.

Have you checked the timing?

why would the timing cause a light on the dash to still be on with no key in the ignition?
he is not taking about run on/dieseling.
