I'm 6'4" - just got a zero option '68 - I do NOT fit in the car! The manual Steering uses a 16" wheel. That's gotta go! I am looking for a Tilt aftermarket column now. They are not cheap! I plan to rest-mod the car and want to get a column that I can keep when I put R&P steering in later. TILT IS A MUST HAVE! Along with a smaller Wheel - I would prefer a flat bottom "D" shaped.
Buy the Windjammer that extends the windshield 7-9" and drive with the top down
OR
the AstroTop Targa gives you 2-3" more headroom ** Opps forgot we were talking a ragtop not a coupe !!***
Just my 2 cents on this... I'm 6-4" with long legs... Since my legs are long head clearance has never been an issue.
But.. In no way shape or form can I drive a 4 speed car if it doesn't have tilt tele, my left leg will hit the steering wheel before it is released. This for me holds true on all C3's and the main reason my 78 SA car doesn't get driven (until I swap out the column).
For us here, if it comes to doing a test drive on a non tilt car someone else here has to do it.
I am 6'5 260lbs. With the top up it have a tuff time getting in the car. My back does not bend very easy. Once in with the tilt telescopic adjusted I fit fine. With the top down it's no problem.
I'm 6'3 and have a long torso and really don't like driving my 78 SA that much with the tops on, I have plenty of leg room though. It really depends on your body type. I really have to scooch down to drive with the tops on and the back of my head hits the rear roof line when they are out if I sit up straight and lay my head back.
