Default water pump leaks

so im driving home and i hear a hissing sound coming from the engine , i look at my thermostat which is showing 210 . i look again and its pinned over 260 . im 2 blocks away and nail it home. as i open up the hood i see a cloud of antifreeze , the water pump is spraying through on the passenger side where the pump connects to the engine . what can i do ? is it easy to change the gasket ? are there things i schould know before starting this ? schould i just flatbed it to the garage? i can post pics later. tia.

Depends on what's really leaking the water. If it's the water pump, change it yourself. It's very easy and presends a good time to change the lower rad hose and the belts...

it seems as if a part of the seal broke and there is a 1/16 inch where the water comes from , inbetween the pump and the engine block. nothing is broken or cracked .

Odd... You can just replace the gasket and if that's all, it should be fine if something else didn't get bent due to the heat...

I just did this in my car, and I have no automotive repair experience at all. Since you have to take everything apart anyway, it's a good time to replace the water pump and hoses, anyway. A new waterpump comes with all of the gaskets that you will need. Gasket replacement is a piece of cake. Scrape off all of the old stuff, put a good coating of blue RTV to both sides of the gasket, and slap the water pump back on.

Once you have it apart and can see it you'll realize that there isn't much to it!

i replaced both gaskets yesterday , using blue rtv. after putting everything back together i started the car , just to see the leak again. i guess it got warped from the heat , so im off to get a new pump . i cant believe i have to go through this again , it was a real bitch to get the belts back on ( i got new ones , no play. ) concidering an electric pump ( csi ) , anybody use one ?

I have seen a similar condition. Put on a new gasket and it still leaks.

Problem was the bolts were too long and were hitting the bottom of the threads in the block before getting tight on the pump.

I think it's only one bolt that can do this, the other is open to the water jacket.
Check the bolt lengths.

after the 24 hour waiting period for the gasket sealer to dry i let the car run till the temp hit 210 and i couldnt find any leaking going on . i guess i fixed the problem ,but wont get my hopes up till i get on the parkway with her. im still interested in an electric pump.....

Don't some of those bolts require thread sealant? I use it anyway.
