Here's a new engine photo or two

Now I just have to finish hooking it up and breaking her in.....

1) How did you like the intake engine-lift plate? I was a bit worried about putting that much weight on my intake (I've got a '84 BB).
2) those are some LONG plug wires! Did you have to custom make them?
David

The engine plate came from Summit. My builder told me it was the only way to lift the engine, as I could no longer use the old manifold loops that were connected to my old iron intake. Of course, using the accessory holes on the heads would have been okay. But that doesn't do well for leverage.
So I bought the plate from Summit, for $20, and it worked great. I didn't even need a load leveler, as I did with the old loops. My buddy and I lifted the engine by the front hole of the plate, and that gave us enough leverage to lower the engine in at a nice angle.
The spark plug wires are so long it's silly. I bought them from Advanced Auto parts. I don't know if they are ridiculous, or cool. I like the way they are hidden, but I have concerns about the way they are routed, and the potential for cross talk. On the other hand, with the way they are routed, I'm not worried about my headers frying them. This has happened way too many times.
Hope the info helps.
I think the plug wires look cool! I'm about to be worried about frying mine with my headders (guess I have to get the engine fired first!) Only a few more things to go! (isn't that ALWAYS the story!!)

Good luck Joe... bet you can't wait to fire her up. For the benifit of the neighbors... do so with open headers!!!! :jester

As far as the other questions go:
I used a cherry picker.
The valve covers are painted silver. They were black originally.
This is not a ZZ4, it's my original block.
As far as horsepower goes, Similar combos built in Hot Rod and Chevy High Performance Magazine pulled over 400 hp at the crank. See Ryan's Engine Combo and Bible (?) Page, combo 99.
http://ryanscarpage.50megs.com/combos13.html
The above combo comes closest to what I have, except I'm running higher compression but stock Vortecs (not pocket ported). The compression came out, originally, to 10:1. I didn't want it to be this high, so we switched to thicker gaskets. This brought it down to 9.7:1. I should have no problem running 92-94 octane at this level.
Honestly, I'm figuring on around 280 at the wheels. If I can get this or higher, I'll be happy. What I pulled out of the car was a boat anchor. One of my heads is still frozen to my cracked intake manifold. There were so many carbon chunks and misc. crap around the combustion chambers and in the intake, anything should be an improvement. Also, I was running a stock converter before, and couldn't even chirp (let alone spin) the tires. Now I'm running a 2000 stall. So this alone should liven things up.
I'll let everyone know, once it's up and running. I plan to get those break in miles out of the way fast.
