What are the pros and cons of the VBP front and rear mono spring suspension upgrades they sell? Considering using the mono spring system front and rear on a 1980 C3.
I purchased a dual mount complete suspension kit for the 6t8 from VB&P OVER 20 + years ago. Parts quality is excellent and complete. With the dual mount kit each corner of the suspension can be adjusted for spring rate and ride height. It's been such a long time since install I don't remember the spring rates, it has a stiff ride. Since my purchase they offer different spring rates, so talk to them so you get the kind of ride you are looking for. The 6t8 handles like it's on rails compared to my 69 with almost stock suspension. T
As a long time customer of VB&P, my personal opinion of the front mono spring setup has always been that it sacrifices front ground clearance. While both the C4 and C5 incorporate the front mono spring, their front suspension incorporates it without sacrificing ground clearance, because it was engineered with it in mind from the beginning.
There are now a number of vendors that offer the advantages of the front mono spring using coil over technology without sacrificing any ground clearance. (VB&P may even offer this capability, I have not checked their catalog recently.)
The rear mono spring on the other hand simply takes the original design to another level without any additional compromises.
I have had these parts on my 1980 for a long time. The front is pretty much just a bolt on and go. Others make Aluminum A Arms but they are no lighter. The front does reduce the ground clearance but its not the lowest spot on the car. And going over something like a speed bump its not a concern cause its in line with the Axel. If you go with the Duel Mount rear spring that will reduce the ground clearance if you are running under car exhaust. Side Pipes are not an issue. As far as quality goes I have had there Springs last 25 years no problem. How ever my last one failed right away.

I have the full setup on my car and really like it. I never drove it before i put it on, so I can't compare it to stock, but I like the adjustability and the light weight. I had my rear spring shortened a bit to clear my rim since used a longer rear bolt to run the car really low.
I have not had any problems with the quality or performance of their products, but I have read a lot of people having problems with their delivery and customer service of late.
On my 80 , I have dual adjustable Viking coilovers on the front, vbp dual mount mono spring in rear, with bilstein sports ( will upgrade to Viking dual mount shocks over bilstein soon )
Dont like the bilsteins,
but love the coilovers , can easily adjust ride height, compression and rebound for a sweet ride
If you have the money, go nutz on suspension and spend to your max, you wont regret it. Viking, QA1, Ridetech etc.. take your pick
I appreciate all of the answers. Ridetech does not show anything for the 80. The Viking set up looks nice but does anyone make tubular arms for the front if you went with the Viking set up? I used something like those on a Mustang II set up on a kit car back in 2000. Coming into this project with a racing back ground the mono spring front and back looked nice. Being somewhat **** I was liking the idea of having the same system front and back. Maybe that is wrong thinking? I want to use 15 inch wheels, don't want what some call a resto mod car. Just one nice noise (side pipes)making ride that is fun to drive on the streets. Having to give up racing due to health. Dennis
