Default Re: Brake Booster removal Q..

I just spend the weekend installing the Hydraboost system into my 81 vette. It too has a standard transmission. I pulled my steering column only because the top left hand nut on the old boost was buried by the clutch safety switch. I had bypassed the switch many years ago when it went bad. Now I removed it. It is almost impossible to get to that nut without taking the clutch switch out. I installed the new boost putting the nuts on the recomended side (stock placement). It was a piece of cake after that. I have not finished the Hydraboost installation yet because I am waiting for the arrival of new AN 6 fiitings to tie the low pressure return back to the P/S resevoir. When I changed to rack and pinion I also change the belt drive and power steering pump to a serpentine belt off of a 89 Vette. The P/S Resevoir is remote and I have a cooler installed with steel braided hoses that have AN6 fittings.

In take the steering column out it was easy for me because in January I installed the rack and pinion system from Speed Direct. The top u joint on the rack to the column was easy to remove and slide the column out.

Note of customer service from Paul Clark at Hydraboots. He was great in full filling my order. He custom made the hose ends for me to attach the high pressure hose to the 89 pump. He also sent with the kit the low pressue line that "T's" into the return at the resevoir in steel braided hose. I did not use the "T" fitting sent in the kit, because I wanted all my connections to be AN 6.

I wil give an update after I have finished the installation and test the brakes.
