weirdness with lights
also when I turned the lights on with the key out brake light, gen and volt meter came on.
ok nest day when I started it the parking lights came on
so do I have a short in the steering column or what any help would be appreciated
well it stopped kids anyway...
but on top of the steering column is the actual ignition switch, actuated by a long rod and a funy looking rack with crescent shaped end on it--related to the tilt wheel......at any rate...the actual switch has either failed or is out of adjustment....
it's located on TOP of the column tube, way up there where GOD and the angels can NOT see.....best thing to do is just drop the steering couumn from the back two bolts...near the dash...running up vertically.....
and then loosen the two bolts on the firewall, holding the flange in place...
NOW with luck, maybe you can avoid bulling the steering wheel....just to get it out of the way....maybe NOW you can finally even SEE the damn ingition switch....
and note the mounting is on a moveable mount adjusted by loosening the screws and moving in the slot.....NOW...you need examine the switch closely to see it's NOT burnt up or turning brown with heat....
and the harness is a real BITCH to unplug.....from under the car with your head upside down, on your back, and hating life.....
personally, I NEVER have understood the common DICK practices of auto engineering in general on dashboard construction.....they need take a look at a 19" rack mount from electronic gear to get a few ideas....but NO...it's too much trouble....so dash board assys/ have been a mess for decades....and it's only getting WORSE....
