Default Quick!! engine temp help

MY engine has a litte over a 1,000 miles on it and had been running at about 230... recently it has gone down to 210-220, which is much better.... but tonight after a mild acceration, shifting at 4700 RPM or so, the temp went down to about 200-210.... is this ok... coud it be just because getting on it broke in the engine more???

I know they say optimal is 195 to 210, but mine lives at 160, even in the desert heat.

Is your engine running cooler because the weather is cooler, it really makes a difference.

My engine rebuild is similar to your and I experenced the similar problems. Make sure youe fan shroud is sealed top and bottom, this is really a big thing. That way it will suck air through the radiator.

Also might want to check your thermostat and get a cooler one. Also make sure your fan is all the way in the shroud.

If those don't work make sure your water pump is functing correctly. With your level of compression the engine is going to make some heat.

I wouldn't worry too much about anything below 220...

The highest I've got my Vette up to was 205 degrees (with my current configuration) on a extremely hot Florida day...
I usually run between 180 and 195 degrees...

I got a new crate motor this last June. It was running at 230-250 the first 3500 or so miles. Now at about 5000 miles it's normal at 195-210.

Changing thermostats doesn't help it run cooler, it just sets the minimum temp your system will run at. If the engine and system want to run at 200, the thermostat, 160, 180, or 195 will always be wide open.

I agree.. it is the "flow"

In addition, check your system. Air in the system (cooling) can also cause this..

I have a:"be cool" rad, and twin Flex a lite Fans.. 185 tops....even in 110 temps... go figure..

You might wanna check your gages to see if they are working corectly... :)

I forget exactly what ya call em, but its a hand held thermometer that you point at the part you want to see the temp of, and it shows what it is on the display.

... Infrared thermometer? Maybe thats it... Radio Shack should have one.
