Can anyone recommend a good free flow catalytic converter? I've got an '82. The only units I've looked at are: Mid America standard free flow - $149, Walker Super Cat - $199, Zip free flow - $159, Eklers free flow - $159. I was wondering if the Walker is worth the extra price.
I failed emissions today for the first time since I've owned the car (1987). NOx was 3700! 900ppm is the limit. I get an intermittent 'Check Engine' light when it hits closed-loop. The ECM code says bad O2 sensor, but the OBD tests say the O2 sensor is only slightly out of voltage limits. I'm replacing the O2 tomorrow, but want to be ready for the cat purchase.
As I remember, I got mine thru Mid-A (in the Spring). It's a CarSound--direct fit--which I've heard good things about. Only problem . . . I've yet to put it on. If you've got an idea on how to get those bolts loose, let me know. I've done the soaking thing, heat, whatever. Decided to put it off until winter storage, when I'll have plenty of time to work on it.
Good look with yours. BTW that's a nice 82. The color combo I wanted, but settled for Red.
I've heard Random Technology's are the best, buut I know Jeg's carries Dynomax free-flows for $53, and Magnaflow free-flows for $100. Dynomax claims 26% more flow over a stock replacement cat, Magnaflow doesn't say but there has to be something in them that makes them cost twice as much.
