Doubtful that three year-old vacuum lines failed but there are many components beyond the vacuum lines.
Am curious that you mention "vacuum pump". Unless you've got a radical engine in there the vacuum operated systems operate off vacuum from the intake manifold and there is no vacuum pump.
Are you perhaps calling the vacuum reservoir (the thing that looks almost exactly like a large coffee can) a "vacuum pump". If so I've heard here that the available replacements are very short lived.
Without a hand vacuum pump (they're cheap and easy to find at any auto parts store) you're mainly working blind on these systems.
