Yeah, I know. It's acid rain etching. I had it on my windshield and mirror tops. Toothpaste and MAS glass polish does help a bit, but if the etching is bad, there really isn't much you can do (except a replacement). I just had my windshield replaced because I got a crack running from the top-corner passenger-side down (I have no idea where it came from). I had slight etching on it for the past 7-8 years or so. At night, on-coming headlights would make my vision a bit hazy. When it rained (God forbid), I could hardly see the road, 'cause the wipers weren't wiping a totally flat surface. Rain-X helps in a big way, but only temporarily (you've gotta keep applying it every month or so and it takes a bit of elbow grease to get a polish). Since I've had my windshield replaced, I'm loving night driving.
A professional glass shop may be able to help, but in my experience if the glass is etched, its probably better to just replace.
