Default Cracked spark plug boot

Found that one of my spark plug boots has a small crack around about 1/3 of the side near a header. No sign of "burning", etc. Its an 82 Corvette with 247,000 miles on it - probably irrelevant to question. Will the plug short to the header, or whatever I should call it. Have a new boot on order from Magnecor (free, of course, its Magnecor). Will be a few days until I replace boot. In the meantime, filled crack (about the thickness of a fingernail thickness) with, yes, silicone caulk. Boots tend to be silicone based, right? Wonder how this will work. Not had a chance to fire it up yet.

If it has been running ok, I would think it will be fine until the new one gets to you.

it would have to be awfully close to the header and perhaps highly humid for it to short especially if the crack is near the opening of the boot versus where the actual metal contact is

Crack is at the 90* bend. Going to get it out tomorrow and see if my "repair" made any difference. Did not see any burn marks around crack so maybe not arcing anyway.

Took car for a trip. It clearly ran more smoothly and shifted better. Though no burn marks from the crack, sealing it off seems to have made a difference. Taking it to work tomorrow rather than wife's RX. Will see how it does at Beltway speed (45 mph!).
