my car has just started burning oil,,, :'( :'(, i noticed it when i was racing a camaro,,,it was at night and i was about 4 car lengths in front. I could see smoke coming out of my rear in the light of his headlights. the weird thing is i never see the smoke in the day just at night.........i am wondering if its my rings or have a leak in the intake gasket,,,,,,oh and it only happens at high rpms,,,,5000-6000 :'( :(
well this is my excuse to save some more money and get a big block :D
what would it take (machine wise) to turn this into a 383 stroker....
can i use same pistons,,,,,9.1 forged
if it is the rings i will just buy another 4 bolt block but use same pistons if possible(heck,,,they are just about brand new)
so tell me what i would have to buy/do to turn this into a 383 stroker.
Theres no need for a 4 bolted block unless your giong to run with abnormous amounts of N2O...Or Supercharge it
Theres many very potent SBs that run high Hp numbers with 2 bolts and cast cranks...

You would need a 3.75 stroke crank and pistons for a 383. If you have 5.7 rods you can use them. The pistons are different for 5.7 and 6 inch rods so you will need to know which rods you will use before ordering pistons. :chevy
Is it an L82?? My understanding is that the L82 has a 4 bolt main.
my motor is already bored out 30 over,,,,if its the rings, the walls are prob damaged, maybe not though, and i was hoping to use the forged pistons that i already have,,,,,(with the 5.7 rods)

Re: burning oil (BB wowbagger)
I noticed smoke in the headlights of 300ZX I smoked at night one time and my motor only had about 10,000 miles on it at the time and it was not consuming any oil.
It is normal for a high performance engine to smoke a little at WOT and 5000RPM.
See how much oil you are going through before you scrap the motor :D
Burning oil produces a blueish smoke. Check your consumption via dip stick and inspect spark plugs for further diagnosis. Looking in the rear view mirror at night with headlights behind you will almost always show some signs of "smoke". Its most likely rich mixture from being on it with the pedal floored. Its common and doesnt nessisarly mean yur "burnin" oil.
If you inspect the plugs and find oil around the threads its a good indication of bad valve seals. Ive seen fresh new motors with bad valve seals using oil. When I swapped to my 64cc heads on my 350 I allowed the guy who did the valve job choose the valve seals and assemble. He used crappy seals and my engine was burning 1qt every 300miles thru bad valve seals. I switched to positive seals myself and the oil control problem ceased.
