I was a little worried at first, people have said they are really loud but I don't think they are too loud at all. Resonance at certain speeds is, as many here have mentioned, quite loud but the range is rather small 35-40mph in 3rd gear.
The mufflers that were on it were okay at idle but when you got on it she sounded like a Buick. Very quiet with a sock-stuffed-in-mouth sort of sound. Now she sounds like a sports car. Much more appropriate(sp?).
Even though I now have sidepipes, I too love the sound of the Flowmaster mufflers. I had the Flowmasters on my car before the sidepipes, & my neighbor said he'd love to have a car that sounded so good just to pull up to an intersection with, never mind if it's fast  .
I love my 40 series, it gives my vette the perfect muscle car sound, which you don't hear too much of from the later C3's  . I think mine are a little quiter than most though because of the reduced resonances of the X pipe.
Before deciding you should listen to some, as well as to other types of mufflers also. Go to a car show or someplace where rodders hang out and ask some guys to run their engines for you. Some guys, including myself, love the Flowmaster sound but others don't. While most mufflers tune out the natural combustion sounds, FM's don't. A lot of people prefer a smoother tone but I'd run open headers if I could. In my case, I replaced some perfectly good Dynomax's with FM's, not because I expect any performance improvement but just because I liked the sound. I donated the Super Turbos to the installer to use on a `69 Roadrunner he was building. A few months later we happened to meet again and this time he was driving the Roadrunner. He'd used the Dynomax's for awhile but, for the same reasons that I did, had put on FM's. BTW, we did race and I cleaned his clock pretty good :). He didn't seem too surprised at the outcome and admitted that he hadn't expected his near stock 383 to win but thought it would do better than it did.
Only one issue... With the restrictive exhaust that was on there before (2.25" with nasty bends and sock-stuffed mufflers) the engine ran fine with the Road Demon 625. Now it doesn't. I have to crank the curb idle up to around 1000 rpms if I want it to keep from stalling when I put it in gear. Either that or lightly depress the gas every time I come to a stop. Oh, well. ZZ4 Speed Demon here I come. The performance has increased significantly too. Tires now chirp going into second. I don't have a shift kit!
