'74 What I'm starting with.
Hey guys, just wanted to start a new thread on the progress of my engine bay restoration. This is my first time pulling an engine, replacing major parts etc. The engine runs great but I'm ready for an upgrade in performance. The 350
is bored .30 over with a mild cam and aftermarket heads from the previous owner. I plan on pulling the motor, painting it black and red, painting the engine bay, clean up or replace Wiring and upgrade to the sniper efi kit. I will also be changing to a serpentine kit in the front of the motor. Feel free to weigh in and offer up any opinions.
Cleared up the front of the motor and the top. I sold the dual carb set up and intake for a nice return! First time pulling the motor! Success! Finally out! Decided to pull the radiator. No rust on the core support thankfully.
The enigine has been cleaned and stripped One step closer to paint. Had to buy an impact gun to take off the front pulley. Next will be the harmonic balancer and timing chain cover.
I was searching the forum for a long time and see a lot of different options of the best timing chain and gear set. If you guys have any opinions on that please don't hesitate to let me know. All I've read is the cloyes brand is the best but there are a million different ones to choose from
and I figured I might as well replace the chain while it's out.
I bought high temp high gloss powder coat for the headers and intake and basically any other part I want. Then I also got a custom deep red powder coat to do my brackets and valve covers.
what is going on with all the loose wiring, maybe a new wiring harness is in the future?
Yes I will be replacing the Wiring for sure. My plan is to cover the existing Wiring and strip the bay down and cleaned to paint. After it fires replace the Wiring peice by peice
