I'm seriously considering installing a gearvendors overdrive setup on my 77 L-82. It has a TH350 in it. It will be after the engine gets warmed up a little bit (not tellin ya the particulars yet..not quite sure how wild i am gonna be going yet). Anyhow, have any of you guys installed one yet? from the looks of it, the install should be relatively painless... :flag
You might have some clearance issues, but I haven't seen one on a C3. There's usually an adapter that replaces the tailshaft and the overdrive attaches to that, and it will most likely call for some creative crossmember (and maybe tunnel) work. I hope you get one and can report on it. They are way  giving you six speeds with the push of a button. They are very proud of them though $$$. Much cheaper to replace that TH350 with a built 700r4.
i agree about the idea of the 700r4 being easier and cheaper, but ya gotta admit that idea of a 6 speed automatic is pretty cool. i looked at the website and they do make one for a small area space. they say it is perfect for the 70-81 camaro. i am gonna get ahold of them and see if they know of anyone that put one in a vette. and i will definitely forward any and all info and possible pics of it when it's done :flag
All great and wonderful, BUT the reduction ratio is ONLY 20% not worth messing with....cruise at 4 grand, with 'GV it's only 3200 not enough engine speed reduction....
if it was say a 30-35% reduction it would be a viable option....
I used to work across the street from Gear Vendors in El Cajon, CA. - they have some awesome equipment there and there is usually a rod or two out front.
While I think the idea has merit I tend to agree that the TH700R4 is a far better choice, especially at the price, you could almost install 2 700R4's for the price of a single GV unit. plus there is the added weight.
Would be cool to see one work though - I've never been in a car with one - always wondered what it would feel like.
