Looking for 1970 engine pics with chrome ignition shielding installed.
I'm looking for pictures to show the ignition shielding on a 1970. We go a box with all the parts (I think) and not sure how it all goes together.
BTW - a descripition of install would be really helpful.

The transition was around serial number 12,000 for the ignition shielding in 1970. You might also check out the 1970 Registry website. Many of the members have webpages of their own with lots of photos of their babies. :) ~Juliet
Iam looking for some pics too,I have a 70 L46 all the shielding is on except for the 4 pieces that are by the exhaust manifold ,2 on each side ,
This thread is 11 years old. Pics of the plug shields may be difficult to find since you cannot see the plugs or the shields too well with the engine in the car. Order the 1970 assembly instruction manual (AIM). The AIM shows the installation of all of the ignition shielding and lists the original part numbers for everything.

Depending on the VIN of your car you could have a few different variations of shielding. (Even though pic shows 75-E77, a lat 70 L46 would basically look like this.) My 70 L-46 VIN 9516 has the one piece distributor box with lid and all four of the sparkplug shielding installed.
The shielding that went over/around the distributor started out as a two piece unit with a lid, it then went to a one piece unit with a lid, and the final version was just an extended lid.
While all cars had the (non-chromed) heat shields between the sparkplug and exhaust manifolds, the early cars have chrome shields that cover the spark plugs in pairs (cyl 1-3, 5-7, 2-4, 6-8), later cars only had the chrome shielding over cyl. 5-7 & 6-8.
There is plenty of drawings avail.but no real pictures of the side shielding below the exhaust manifolds, everybody took them off because it was a major pain to change the plugs.Theres plenty of pics of the dist.coil and wire shields.
