I need to weigh my 79 again because things have changed but last time....

Removed Spare.
Removed cats.
Aftermarket hood (its lighter)
Wilwood calibers.
Cragar wheels (Heavier than stock I believe)
80 Front and rear.
Crate engine
Headers
Dewitts Radiator
700r4 trans (Not sure how it affects weight)
Bowtie Crossmember
Fiberglass rear spring

She was around 3250ish

Since then

Electric headlights.
Aftermarket rear bumper.
Fitech with FCC fuel injection.
Global west front upper and lower Control Arms
Viking Front Coilovers.

Control arms being installed as I type,.

I'll try and make a trip to the scales for a update when she is all done.

Man, that's rough. Thanks for the info! I'll scale verify it soon (hopefully this week or weekend). Even if I can't get it down to the weight I want, at least I'll know I got 300 pounds off of the original heavy weight!

Yeah I'm planning to replace that battery with a lighter weight one! Mine hasn't been holding as much charge lately so I will replace it soon, thanks!

Definitely update us on the weight when you do! When you say 80 front and rear, do you mean the bumper covers? Still have your front and rear bumper reinforcements in place?

Car looked just like a 81 (81 had black window trim). Even had the 80s gill vents. This mod was done by the PO. I'm not reeally sure what was removed but if I had to guess I would say that most of the reiniforcements have been removed. It looks very open if you look inside the front bumper. Even more so now that I took out all that vacuum stuff for the popups.

BTW: My 2 electric motors and wiring harness weighed less than the old vac system stuff I removed. I was very surprised at this.

Man you think either I'm very light or my car is! haha. If it weighed 3300 with me in it and half a tank of gas, I would have a 30xx pound car haha.

I wish

Interesting. Well cool, makes sense that yours would way about that with all of the bumper reinforcement removed as well.

Thanks for the info!

My '80 weighed 3360 lbs with me in it and 1/2 tank of gas. This was when I first got it 20 years ago, since then many weight saving mods have been done. So now it is probably closer to 3000lbs without me in it.

I believe it! You have a huge advantage on me though, you have an 80 which weighed like 300 less pounds from the factory than a 79 :/ I'm jealous haha

GM did a lot of weight saving modifications to the Corvette in 1980. Thinner, lighter fiberglass, thinner window glass, aluminum differential and bat wing.

If you just pick up an 80's hood and compare it to an earlier C3, it is remarkable. I had my 80 and my 75 hoods off at the same time and I couldn't believe the difference.

You should really consider a lithium battery. You can easily drop 25-30lbs and have a much better battery to boot.

ccording to this site your car is around 3800 https://www.corvsport.com/the-c3-cor...ricing_Options
So where are the weightsavings? That is still more than mine and mine is a bigblock so something is not right here?
Mine was weighted when I got it registerd in Sweden in august this year and the driveweight was 1615kg with driver 75kg tools spare half tank of gas and all fluids topped up. Dry weight would be around 1475kg. or 3251lb.

Something is wrong; it's that website's #s.

The weight savings started in the 1980 model year and if I remember correctly there were continued savings through 82.

Thinner glass; rear differential / pumpkin / batwing, front integrated bumper / vacuum canister replaced by lightweight "tin can", I think there were small changes made all over the frames, too (if I remember correctly the C3 frame reached it's max weight with the 1979 models and then started coming down in weight through 82).

My '71 Convertible and with all the weight saving mods I've done (aluminum heads and intake, headers, composite spring etc.) with the convertible top out of the car and an empty tank and without my fat-*** in the seat it weighs 2993 on the garbage dump scale. I was happy to see it get below 3000.
