Has anyome tried to fit a holley strip dominator in there small block vette ?? I had to shave 5/8" of quadrajet breather bolt to fit a edelbrock performer...
I may put it on car and try it...eventually its permanent, but on a new engine build...want to use a roller cam and different shortblock...nothing to the tune of 10 grand!!! Just a real pavement grabber.
Most intake mods on 78 hood required a 14" open air filter with drop base. Google it and you will find that all the speed shops online and auto parts box guys sell them.
more info needed on what you are planning on putting together include trans type and rearend gear
Right off the bat doubt a SD is going to fit if you want a single plane try a Team G. Not much clearance on these cars.

For a quick measurement, today i checked my heigth from top of intake bolt to rim of quadrajet....it measured less than half an inch shorter than the holley sitting on the SD.....looks like it will just clear, going to take a more accurate measurement tomorrow, but worste case scenario looks like just a lower profile air breather. Looks like were good to go, but what doesnt add up is the specs for sd and specs for edelbrock performer say 1.5 inch difference...quadrajet uses a half inch gasget whereas holley uses a 1/8....does that mean that a holley is 1/2 inch shorter????? I always thought they were the same height...something dont add up here.....hahaha
I'm going roller on my '80 build too. I have some advice on intake gaskets, use stock type gaskets with the hard plastic if you are going with vortec heads. I built a '79 Z-28 a few yrs ago using all the best stuff (I thought). I used premium, high performance, after market intake gaskets in the hopes of building a strong yet reliable wheel smoker. No such luck. After a month or so it started running like crap. I finally pulled the intake and found my problem. In several places the non plastic frame supported gasket areas beside the intake runners were sucked in and not sealing. Went back with stock (plastic frame) gaskets and no more issues other than tires broke loose too easily.
Several plugs were oil fouled yet compression was great. I thought maybe oil was getting past the valve seals but couldn't believe that because my machine shop let me watch while he was rebuilding the heads. It all made sense when I saw what's in the picture above.
