Default Engine Break-in Period

I just installed a ZZ4 and have about 100 miles on it. My question is what is the break-in period? I know GM says 500 miles but I thought I would ask you all. I have been babying it pretty much, should I continue to do that or is it OK to burn rubber now? Just wondering what's best for longevity and performance of the new engine.

THANKS!

500 is ok for being 'easy' on it......

But I'd say 1000 miles is much safer for the rings to properly seat.....make sure you drive at different speeds (a lot of in-town driving works best).

I'm with Verskel, 500 miles to be nice to it. After that you can lean on it harder and spin the tires a little. I would say you can run it to redline in first gear with little worry but I wouldn't pull thru all the gears at WOT (maybe let off a little early in the other gears). At 1000 you can burn all the rubber you want.

I agree with Verskel. Play it safe till 1000 and definitely vary driving speeds. I would occassionaly get the rpms up to about 4000.

I took it relatively easy for the first 1000 miles - even though my engine builder recommended only 500 miles as break in perios...

Did you guys use synthetnic oil from the beginning? My engine builder is telling me to go 5000 to 6000 miles with standard oil.
