I've stripped my car down to a rolling frame + the differential. I'd like to maintain a rolling frame so I can walnut blast the frame in my yard.
I'd like to remove the differential next. Can I remove the differential and still have a rolling frame? When I remove the composite spring, strut rod assembly and sway bar it looks like my frame may drop down to the trailing arm bumper stops and still roll?
If this is correct what is the order of stuff I should remove?
The composite spring is completely hidden behind the half shafts in this picture:
Sort of. With the spring, Differential and struts removed, the trailing arms will flop all over the place. I'd maybe cut a couple of 2x4's and put them between the T/A's and the frame. But the t/a's will still be able to go sideways.
You could use a piece of 1-1/2" pipe cut the same length as the distance from side yoke-to-side yoke to keep the tires from cambering inward so far they hit the frame. Or you might be able to use a 2" X 4" that spans the distance. Personally I'd vote for the pipe.
Just remove everything, then blast. If you try to keep the trailing arms in, you may damage them. Better to take it apart fully, then you can do a better job blasting.
