I have tried to get an answer for this...
Do i need additives in gas for my 72 BB or were the valve seats fixed for this in 1972?
Using additives now but it would be nice to know if i really need it!
Were valve seats hardened in ‘72? Unleaded wasn’t required yet, so I doubt they were. A lead additive might be in order. The ethanol isn’t good for your factory fuel, system either.
The guy working on my Vette (‘69 427/390), who does restorations for a living, said to avoid pump gas with ethanol. He said to run Avgas and add 6oz of Marvel Mystery for every full tank.
if the ethanol is 10% or less no issue, have been running that for many years. no lead additive required either unless you are towing a trailer up a mountain.
IF those seats are original they are probably beat/sunk anyways
if it really bothers you VP, Torco makes additives that work; wild bills octane supreme has lead and really does help
most the auto parts store stuff is useless period.
A bottle per tank isnt a big deal if youre a weekend driver

I run 91 octane no ethanol in my 69 big block. Never had a problem and when I refurbished the original heads the seats were in great shape. No additives used.
The original owners manual to my dads 71 chevelle talks about the “improvements” to the engine for the 1971 model year so it could run unleaded gas. If GM put it in the manual, then they are probably fine
The Owner’s Manual doesn’t say change every 6000 miles, it says 4 months OR 6000 whichever comes sooner...
That's what my 69 owners manual says but it also recommends changing the oil filter every second oil change after the first one.... Those days along with 24 lbs air pressure in the tires are long gone I guess. Thankfully.
