I ran into a guy at the local Sheetz with a real sharp green on tan c3. I went over to say "nice vette" like all true vetteguys and gals should do ;) and he told me it was a 76. It kinda caught me off guard because this car looked like it was redone to look pretty close to stock. I didn't ask more about it as I didn't really know him and didn't want him thinking I was pulling a George and critiqueing his car. So when did the rear hatch come out replacing the flat rear window. I thought it was 78, but I could be wrong.
On a side note, it reminded me of why I am glad to own a c3. Nothing against other generation owners. But, c3 guys in particular seem to have a special appreciation for the car. When you approach them they get a big grin and love to BS about it. I have had many experiences with owners of other generations responding with a simple thanks and turn their back. Not sure what to make of that and I know there are exceptions out there, but generally speaking c3 guys will talk your ear off.
Brett, you're correct about the big back window beginning in 78. It was a fixed window however and didn't open like a hatch. I also think your owner's assessment is accurate.
