I may have a situation where I need to use .550 offset rockers, on some cylinder heads I plan to install. The manufacturer specifies the offset rockers.
So, can someone explain these things? Do I need them, and why? How much? Are the intake and exhaust rockers different? What happens if I install stock rockers instead?
Re: Can someone explain offset rockers to me? (shotgun_000)
If you look at the intake port on a small block head you can see that there is a "bump" in the wall for push rod clearence. This causes restrictions at high flow. To correct this the cylinder head manufactures move the push rod hole away from the centerline of the port. This requres offset rocker arms and offset lifters.
The other situation is if you are useing shaft mounted rockers the intake rocker is offset to correct the alignment of the pushrod as it cannot be slightly turned as with a stud mounted rocker. This situation does not require offset lifters.
