I put in a new headlight switch about a month ago and, didn't really check my handiwork. Well today taking a ride once I started the car and backed it out of the garage I notice the headlight doors are in a very slight open position. I turn on the lights after a bit they pop up and, won't go down. I tried the override nothing. I was pretty careful to put the hoses back in same position. So now I've got to find my problem. First thing I thought bad switch. I'm actually hoping I'm at fault as I'm so disgusted with the Vendors selling crap and taking forever to ship things.
On your car, you have to remember that to make the lids open it requires the small hose side to be blocked. So pulling the over-ride down or pulling the switch out should block vacuum on the small hose side.
I suspect that you might have a hose in the wrong position on the headlamp switch.. but the best way tell is to start testing. With the switch in the off position you should have vacuum on hose H.. you should also have vacuum at L M and N on the schematic below.
If you do have vacuum with the lamps off there then you probably have a relay issue. If you don't then you probably have the hoses reversed on the headlamp switch or somewhere else in the system but you can determine this by going to the first connection where H plugs into the over-ride switch.
They were working ok just a little slow. I looked under there and the rod on the actuator looks crappy and the boot is torn. When I get time I'm gonna pull it and check maybe change hoses while I'm there and, replace missing spring and...
