Default 79 L82 Corvette finally inspected

A few weeks back I got myself a 1979 Vette which I covered in another thread. First thing was to buy the shop manual, assembly manual and electrical diagrams for the car. It wasn't quite ready for state inspection so here's the list of things that I repaired:

- No functioning ebrake: Got the complete rebuilt kit from Zip corvette - I replaced all the cables, new brake shoes, new hardware and while I was at it, I put new rotors, calipers and pads. Replacing the parking brake pads was a bitch - period. There are different kinds of instructions out there including one in the shop manual. I tried them all. The one that worked for me is installing the brake shoes first (no springs no nothing) - after you get that done, everything else falls together.

- Rear back-up lights were always on: Easy. The back up switch shaft separated from its lever and was always turned on. Got a new one from Zip corvette and that fixed the problem.

- Hard shifting: Shifter was loose and not adjusted properly. I got the shift linkage rebuilt kit from Zip and went to town. Adjustment of the linkages was tricky. To get the special adjustment tool in the linkage assembly slot, I had to remove the left bank exhaust pipe out of the way to get some leverage. It was still a bitch.

- Brake light was always on - the brake proportioning valve was toast. A new one from Eckler's Corvette fixed that problem

Now to the next set of problems -

Well, son of a gun. I always wondered what it would take to make working on C3's fun...NOW I know...just after I've finished all the work!
