Car won't stay running
My buddies 72 vette will start, but when you let the key go back to run the car dies. With the key in the on position, I measured 0 volts at the positive side of the coil. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Andy

Ballast resistor is probably open or has a broken wire. Can't remember if it is an actual resistor or a resistor wire. You could prove this by running a wire from the battery lead on the starter to the (+) side of the coil - just don't leave it on too long because the coil will heat up and eventually burn - just long enough to prove the theory.

Sounds like the ignition switch. I had it happen like that but it was long ago and far away. I do not know which vehicle it was. It was a Chevy though. It probably is not getting voltage through the switch in the run position.

Did he replace the starter just before it happened? I put a after market starter in and wired it wrong. Had to keep the key in the start postion or it would die. Rewired it correctly and it has ran fine since.
