Started vehicle eariler this afternoon and let it run for 30 minutes. The needle on the temp gague moved a little past the first mark past the number 100. I shut the vehicle off and started it again 30 minutes later and let it run another 30 minutes. The needle on the guage moved a little past the first mark past the number 100. Driving it will be the big test.
Ajrothm : I agree with you.
Joewill: Ran with 195 degree thermo since I rebuilt this engine 14 years ago. Never had this issue. (That was then, this is now)
Headsup: Always used lower hose w/o spring. If the hose collapsed, first time for anything I guess.
DerekDerek: Seals weren't on the car when I bought it nor did I install them when I rebuilt the engine way back when. I do have a weather seal kit (never installed them) Will install, cheap ins I guess. Thanks for tip.
7T1Vette: Thanks for your tip as well.

I had an air pocket in my system once when replacing the radiator. My 79 did pretty much just what you described. I took advice from the forum here, and made the filler neck of the radiator the highest point in the cooling system by jacking up only the passenger side front of the car and refilling, which fixed the problem.
