All ye who have encountered this great, vast, growing conspiracy please speak up. It seems to be nearly as widespread as the "Resale Red Revolution" but for entirely different reasons. This conspiracy must be stopped. The people behind it are determined to convert all cars in their path into the master Aryan Race, removing all traces of individual color until every Corvette is an identical pure white color. I first encountered the effects of the Great White Conspiracy in September 1998, upon the purchase of my 1969 coupe. The car was originally Cortez Silver but had been repainted white barely 4 years into its life and had stayed white ever since. I've since encountered many car that were originally many different beautiful colors: blue, gold, silver, black, yellow, etc. The Conspiracy knows no limit. It must be stopped. I've done my part. I stripped the multiple layers of cracking peeling white paint and returned my car to its original ethnicity. I encourage all others in the same position to do the same. :flag
Seriously though, I think it's a widespread thing that many folks repaint these Vettes white to hide the signs of poor body repairs and poor paint workmanship. I looked at a '72 a few weeks back that was the most god-awful white paintjob I'd ever seen. My car wasn't much better. I know that many of the original colors in lacquer paint didn't hold up well to the sun and elements, silver being about the worst of them all. With the advent of urethane base/clear I'm really surprised that I'm not seeing more of the white cars converted back to original colors.
Anyone else got a "converted" white car that you've considered changing back?
Shannon
Naw, I'm OK, but I think my son has that disease, or is part of the conspiracy, or whatever... Asked if he could paint the Corvair white (the original color).
He gets to drive it when he gets his license (coming up way to soon).

Re: The Great White Conspiracy (sb69coupe)
I am part of this conspiracy also. Or my car is. When it left the factory it was painted Donnybrook Green. There are traces of it everywhere. Now it is some really bright white paint. This white paint has got to go though. Eventually it will. I am in the process of putting a red LT1 hood on it that will probably wind up being the next color. I really do like the silver on Shannon car though.
You guys with original white cars aren't part of the vast Conspiracy. It's all the Bubbas like Chuck G described that do a crappy job of body repairs and then shoot 30 mils of thick white acrylic enamel paint over top of it, full of runs, drips, dust and bugs. They are the ones who must be stopped. :D
All Corvettes AREN'T red. Or white. Or ........ I love seeing all different colors. When was the last time you saw a Riverside Gold '69? Or a Mosport Green '66? Or a Warbonnet Yellow '72? Compare the number of these to the red/white/black cars that seem to be everywhere. Long live the original colors!!
My '76 was born White, and has been repainted White. Not only that, but Lest We Forget, the 1ST CORVETTES were White also......thats more than good enuff for me.......... :D :D :D
I have only one theory when it comes to paint colors. Really fast cars need to be dark, everyday, or neutral colors. Those bright colors do attract attention and sometimes too much.
To add to Chuck's question:
'
'....Is it "resale" red or "retail red" ' or "target" red?
Red seems to attract the police around these parts. As does yellow.
Mine stays dark green. I get into enough trouble already!
I think also it's because it's such an easy color to keep clean.
My black Z28 is hard to keep clean, wash it and put it in the garage and the next morning a light coat of dust and it show. The white vet can be dirty and still look clean
