Default Dipstick

Trying to find a dipstick for the small block 427 build. Original engine had a driver side dipstick. I need a passenger side tube and dipstick for the new engine. I have the GM part numbers and there are a couple around on eBay but they are asking crazy prices for ugly parts. I don't need anything that will stand up to NCRS judging, but I want something that will look factory. Mr Gasket and a few other aftermarket suppliers have chrome tubes and sticks available but they all look like they were made by the same factory in China and the reviews are not very good. Anyone have a suggestion for a factory passenger side dipstick and tube that might still be available or available for a reasonable price on the used market?

If it's the chrome plating that bothers you it can be removed by soaking it in ordinary muriatic acid for an hour or so. Muriatic acid will also remove rust from parts.

That is certainly one of the issues so that's good to know. Fit is also an issue. Some of the reviews of these parts on line say they couldn't get the tube into the block. Anyone have experience with these aftermarket tubes and sticks? I have been looking at the Mr Gasket # 6237. If I was sure it would fit and I could get the chrome off or at least paint it black, I would consider it.

There's a zillion right side dipstick engines in junk yards. They all have dip sticks in them. They would look like OEM dipsticks.

I've been reading up on this method on line. To say it has mixed reviews would be an understatement! Has anyone tried this with success?
